UUPlus SOHO is ideal for groups who need private email accounts, but share connectivity over a satellite or cellular phone. SOHO is a simple to operate mail server which operates as a sub-domain of uuplus.com and is capable of handling up to 100 mailboxes, which are accessible directly from the SOHO software, through POP access over a local area network or via portable media (Sneaker Net). All mailboxes are controlled locally from the SOHO software so there is no need to request an address change when addresses are added or deleted from the system.
Email addresses are in the form "username@site-name.uuplus.com".
Features
Calling Locations:
UUPlus SOHO can be configured to use several different modems or connection types and are stored as calling locations. SOHO computers are not typically as mobile as Personal computers, but if SOHO is operating from a yacht, different connection options may become available when entering a marina.
Scheduling Calls:
SOHO is designed to operate without constant management. SOHO can be configured to automatically call the UUPlus server to upload and download any mail in the queue at specified times of the day. This allows an automatic flow of email without the need for somebody to be constantly monitoring the computer.
User Accounts:
The system administrator for the SOHO computer can add and remove user accounts based on need. Each account is accessible through the small mailer built into UUPlus software or through POP access over a local area network.
Size limit:
Each user can be assigned a different size limit. The size limit prevents the download of over sized emails. The reason for different size limits is perhaps a captain of a yacht will need to receive larger emails than a crew member.
Mail Quota:
The mail quota designates how much mail a single mailbox can send or receive within a calendar month. This helps prevent abuse of the system and is an easy way of keeping track of how much mail a single user sends or receives.
Mail Fetch:
The mail fetch allows each mailbox to fetch mail from one POP accessible Internet email account. The UUPlus server fetches the POP accounts once an hour and any mail fetched will be routed to the user's mailbox within the SOHO computer. Some email providers such as AOL and Hotmail do not allow POP access and therefore UUPlus cannot fetch those accounts. Check with your service provider to learn if your email account is POP accessible.
Mail Forward:
Mail for a single mailbox within SOHO can be configured to forward to another account.
Web Fetch:
UUPlus does not provide an Internet connection capable of browsing the Internet, but we do have the ability to fetch files off the Internet and prepare them for download. This feature is especially useful for downloading weather maps, forecasts, and news off the web.
Minimize Message Filter:
This filter removes unnecessary HTML formatting and message header information before transfer. This reduces the size of the email message, making it less expensive to download. Formatted messages average a reduction of 50%. The email messages will no longer be in nicely formatted text, but they won't cost as much either.
Max Size Limit:
Sets a maximum size limit for the entire site. Any email message over the set size limit will be returned to the sender with an explanation why. This size limit supersedes any size limit set on individual mailboxes.
Trusted Address List:
Any email address or domain listed here will bypass the max message size limit.
Inbound Mail Filter:
This is a user defined junk mail filter. The UUPlus server will reject any email message matching an address, domain, keyword, or phrase in this list.
